MBTA gloom

It's amazing how a bunch of blindingly bright lights completely fail to make MBTA subway stations not gloomy.

I was just this evening getting off the train at Quincy Center and thinking how extremely dysphoric bare concrete is. They can make plastic blue and pink and purple and black and polka-dotted; I don’t see why they can’t do the same thing with concrete.

(I have to say, though, I really like the Porter Square T stop, with its escalators that your ears pop on and its bronzed gloves.)

blindingly bright lights

You mean like dentist-chair/torture-chamber lights?
