how big was it?

my first thought was a sharp-shinned hawk... probably not a cooper's hawk.

after a quick look at some images/guides, i'm more close to thinking that's a red-shouldered hawk.

probably as i said. the sharp shinneds are blue-jay sized or so.

sharp little birds. we have both around here.
