I met this person yesterday and got to handle a couple of her 3D metal prints. Very solid. Very awesome.

"...the design is laid down, one layer at a time, in stainless-steel powder held in place by a laser-activated binder."
"After the whole model is built up, and the extra powder is shaken off, the piece goes into an oven, where heat drives off the binder and fuses the steel powder."
"to get rid of the porosity, the airspace that remains in the piece will be replaced with liquid bronze."

She's the girlfriend of someone on my f'list. I haven't met her yet or seen her works in person, but I'd like to.

She’s also somebody I knew in college. Had no idea she was on the east coast; last I knew she lived out west.

[livejournal.com profile] darxus, was she in town for some event, or does she live here now?

She splits her time between East & West coast. She used to be my downstairs neighbor before I moved. :)
