this will make the 4th++ year in a row that i don't do arisia hotel.
used to have roommates and/or SO for such things, but since i stopped getting a room, i find i enjoy the spare money more, and the con becomes a day trip. too many other interests lately.
$400 + registration + PARKING is lots of money. why, that's rent for a month for a lot of people (group housing ;>)
as well, as many of the Northerners gave up on Southern cons, my interest in such road trips/etc vanished as well. though i'll still drive 999 miles to go camping with the right crowd ;>
That's not wholly out of line with what I'd expect for a high-priced city (Boston) downtown-ish hotel. I'm sad the con couldn't get better rates, but there it is.
Yeah, I'm not comparing it to high priced city hotel rates, because I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a hotel. I'm comparing it to what I get out of the experience. I don't think Arisia is worth $439 to me. And I hated even staying in the overflow hotel. But most people are probably in a better position to split a room with somebody. I think I'll probably do two nights instead this year.
Nod. For us there is a large utility in not having to schlep the kids back and forth. We've commuted several Arisias and last year staying in the hotel worked out mostly OK.
Also most of the folk we'd ask to watch the kids are going to be staying in the hotel so it gives us a certain degree of freedom.
