And a clear driveway!

The guy suggested I wear a hat. He clearly did not grasp the practicality of my hair in its full glory. One of these days I'll take a picture.

The spray in my face was unpleasant though.

Do an internet search for "whois" to find a free service to do the lookup.
Look up your domain. Verify that you are listed as the registrant and / or owner. Your email address should probably show up in the contacts.

I know of one person who is in an extended legal battle because he paid some guy to set up his website for him, and the contractor registered the domain in his own name, instead of the name of the appropriate owner.

And I just noticed another person I know has a domain name which is very important to him and his business that doesn't list him as the owner or even any of the contacts - some web developer is listed as the owner.

There are exceptions that look something like this:

Registrant:
Domains by Proxy, Inc.
DomainsByProxy.com
15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
United States

These exist to keep your contact information private, but still put you in a sketchy legal situation where they still officially own your domain. Be very sure that they have clear policies that state that you actually own the domain.
