Henry <3

I laid down with Henry again.

And he went for my shoulder, again. This time more directly. Then I fell assleep with him there, snuggled under my shirt, for a few hours. This is basically the second time I've held him.

Then I finally decided I really should get up and put him in his tub.

And he stayed right there. Sucked the last of his tail into my shirt.

And he's just staying right there, snuggled into my neck/shoulder under my shirt.

I... really should put him away.

This is going well.

Henry is my new baby green anaconda.

Conversation at the pet store today:
"[For a] ball python?"
"Anaconda."
"<blink><blink>. Green or yellow?"

Yes, I was supposed to wait before I held her.
It's not my fault; she started it.

More accurate length estimate is 21".

She didn't even open her mouth at me, let alone hiss, since this morning.

I am extremely pleased with how pretty she is. I've seen lots of pictures of boas, and her saddles are bright and very well aligned, her background is light, and her spots are well defined. Prettier than the initial photo I saw that made me need one.

She calmed down a lot after we shut her cage and walked away. She wandered around the cage a little, and even closed her mouth.

I'm not supposed to handle her until Saturday. I don't know if I can wait.

Paid for but not shipped. This is her:

She didn't take her first meal so I'll have to wait a longer eternity for her to eat two meals before I get her. Maybe a couple weeks.

My decision process. )
7/12: Dorothy was delivered.

Please ask questions. While this has only been a three week period, it has been one of obsessive research. Please assume that I have thought things through thoroughly and have strong opinions behind every related detail, it should make things go quicker.

This is not what I'm getting. For my first serious snake. They're more complicated.

Unfortunately they don't stay this bright as they grow. And those kind of results take a lot of... breeding.

16:43 <+Darxus> there was a profound point in my life where I realized "I can buy a whole *bag* of york peperment patties and eat them and nobody can stop me." I'm feeling like I'm reacting similarly to herps right now :/
16:43 <@Josh> you are
16:43 <@Josh> it's the way of our people

There is a pervasive opinion that they are like pringles.

14:58 <+Darxus> chondrogal: how many snakes do you have?
14:58 <+chondrogal> 80 something

10:47 <+Ameivaboy> I think you'll be alright, you're doing things right by massively researching first
10:47 <+Ameivaboy> hell... it's nice to see

Anybody know any good breeders in the area?

I had grand plans to build it an 8'x2'x3' cage Read more... )

I've been strangely enjoying going through long lists of baby names.

This is reasonably likely to be a 30 year commitment. I've been doing a lot of research.
