World IPv6 Launch is June 6th 2012
Mar. 1st, 2012 01:24 pmWhen you enter a hostname (like "www.chaosreigns.com") in your web browser, it gets converted to an IP (Internet Protocol) version 4 address (like "64.71.152.40") for use by the computers involved.
We're running out of them.
IANA allocates IP addresses to five Regional Internet Registries. IANA ran out of version 4 addresses on January 31 2011. The first RIR to run out was APNIC (Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre) on April 15 2011. The other four have not yet run out, but some, like ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers) have begun restricting availability.
